July 2010
Hello
Pinnerwood Riding Club Members!
After
an interesting, informative and enjoyable reign as newsletter writer,
Pennie has
handed the role over to me.
Please
feel free to contact me (Jess with Darcy) at the yard, or email me at
horseslikecarrots@msn.com
if you have any news you would like to share with the club.
Also dont hesitate to contact me if you have any horses for sale/loan,
tack and other items
for sale that you would like to be advertised.
In
the next few months it would be jolly to include a couple of little
photos, as we seem to
have a few keen photographers around. So if you would not like your
face to appear in the
letters let me know. If you have any nice images from recent events
please send them to me
and I will try and include them.
Committee
There
have been a couple of changes within the committee, Juliet Wickstead
has taken over
the role of chairperson from Emma Poulton.
Joules
has years of experience on the committee, loads of enthusiasm and ideas
and is heavily
involved in the LRC etc etc. A brilliant candidate!
Emma
has said that she will continue to remain active within the committee.
Thank you to
Emma and good luck to Joules!
Carra
Carter has also joined as membership secretary ( carraracehorse@btinternet.com
) and
Jessica Gill has joined as secretary. ( horseslikecarrots@msn.com
)
Area
9
Just
a short notice to alert members to the fact that Area 9, the administrative
area under
which we fall, is being disbanded. This means that our club will probably
be joining Area 6
for external BRC events.
Therefore,
I would like to stress the importance of the forthcoming AGM in early
November,
in which members will be able to discuss the future of their club and
the implications of the
admin changes that the BRC have made.
Keep
an eye out for future information to follow in a separate document.

Safety
- Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund
We
are delighted to report that Roz Butterworth is now on the mend after
her adventure on Ayce earlier this month. Now seems like a good opportunity
to draw attention to safety in general, as Roz's hat and body protector
undoubtedly saved her from suffering more serious injuries in her fall.
It
is worth knowing that in the event of a head injury, it is helpful to
take the hat to hospital with the patient, so that the doctors can more
easily assess the point and force of impact.
Please
bear your own safety in mind at all times, even in warm weather. A hat
is essential every time you ride, no matter how hot it is. Try a vented
one next time you buy - and hats must be replaced automatically after
a fall, and every 4-5 years in any event. Hi-viz is also recommended,
to give motorists a chance to see you in plenty of time. A body protector
will save you from broken ribs and crushed organs, and jods and shirt
sleeves will at least offer some protection from superficial cuts and
grazes.
The
Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund was set up to help riders who have suffered
physically and financially after a bad fall. Their help is available
to all riders, not just to professionals. Karen (Toby) has left leaflets
about their activities and safety suggestions by the Riding Club notice
board which you are welcome to pick up. If anyone would like to give
a donation to support their work, Karen will collate donations and send
them on.
Please
ride safely - we need all the members we can get!
Upcoming
Events
Sun
25th July 11am - 1pm - Connect Thru Horses
Have you ever wanted to have a better relationship with your horse?
One that is based on mutual trust and respect - a true partnership ?
Sounds simple yet most of us strive to be truly connected with our horse.
We are delighted that Julia Fenton an advocate of Natural Horesemanship
techniques who has trained both with Monty Roberts and more recently
with Carolyn Resnick in her pioneering work (see www.connectthruhorses.com)
will be at Pinnerwood on Sun 25th July to demonstrate how to create
a harmonious relationship with your horse. The Carolyn Resnick Method
is a philosophy of horse training based on using the horse's natural
instincts. By respecting and working with a horses' natural tendencies
you can shape his behaviour to become a true partner who is enthusiastic
about his work. Julia is the only clinician this side of the Atlantic,
having spent 6 months with Carolyn last year and is delighted to share
her philosophy with us. During her demonstration you will learn about
horse psychology and the natural behaviours that horses would engage
in whilst in the wild. By understanding more about a horse's natural
instincts you can begin communicating to him in his own language. She
will use body language to communicate her intentions and explore the
concept of boundaries and pecking order to understand how harmony is
maintained in the herd. She will then introduce the seven Waterhole
Rituals and start to help you create a roadmap which you can use
to establish a better relationship with your horse.
If
you would like to attend, please see the noticeboard for more details
(just being finalised) or contact Pennie with Ned - email penniewickstead1@googlemail.com

Anyone aspiring to be in the showjumping teams that represent Pinnerwood
would be advised to attend.
Stuart
is a freelance show jumping trainer based at Patchetts Equestrian Centre.
He is a successful showjumping competitor who is regularly ranked in
the top 100 in the BSJA rider rankings. He has jumped on the international
circuit in Italy as well as in numerous Grand Prix classes in England.
Stuart is also much in demand for his skills as a medium course builder.
He focuses now on training, competing and selling competition horses.
He was responsible for the early production of the well known International
Grand Prix horse 'Coeur' now ridden by Rodrigo Pessoa who was purchased
as a 4 year old from Germany and was in training at Patchetts and many
other top competition horses in the UK and abroad. Stuart was formerly
the Manager of Club Europa Equestrian Centre in Italy which was owned
by the late Luciano Pavarotti. Stuart's position at Club Europa involved
the running of two international show jumping competitions per year,
ten national competitions including the Italian National Rider and Horse
Championships, also dressage and vaulting
competitions at national and international levels. Stuart competed successfully
himself on horses of Pavarotti's in both national and international
show jumping. Whilst in Italy he course built at international level
for Grand Prix and Nations Cups Stuart enjoys teaching at all levels
and is currently the Show Organiser for show jumping competitions at
Patchetts.

Body
Sculpting - 14th August
Due
to the success of previous sessions, there is another Bodysculpting
day on 14th August.
Amanda
Gover, BHSIT is well known for her sell-out Body-Sculping Workshops,
using a computerised, mechanical horse simulator to 'sculpt' the rider
into the correct position. Amanda will be returning to Pinnerwood to
help riders on their own horse look at common faults and create an individual
'blueprint' position for each rider.
There
are private time slots of 40mins from 10am-1pm and then 1.30pm-4.45pm.
Please
sign up on the board at Pinnerwood or contact Jess with Darcy on horseslikecarrots@msn.com
or another member of the committee.
Sunday
15th August - Ring Craft Clinic
The clinic will be held at Deep Mill Farm, Great Missenden and will
start at 10.00am and finish at 11.30am
With Pippa Haywood this clinic is UNMOUNTED but is very good for those
intending to do Dressage, I would strongly recommend any of the team
who are going to the London and South East Dressage Championships to
pay the small amount of £10pp to do this clinic as you will be
amazed how many marks you pick up just for riding an accurate test.
Many
marks are wasted through poor arena craft. Schooling benefit is lost
through lack of attention to detail. This thought provoking clinic covers
aspects you may not have thought of to help you get better results before
you even get on your horse!
The
session includes a lot of active involvement and participants are taught
how to plan and calculate accuracy, learn how the judge views the test,
efficient use of the arena and ultimately how to impress the judge!
If there is interest afterwards it has been suggested that we could
find a local pub and have bit of lunch as there a few nice pubs in the
local area.
